The kick-off event for The Sculpture Trail at Laurelwood Arboretum will be held on Saturday, March 22, at the Broadfoot & Broadfoot Gallery in Boonton. Guests can shake off the winter doldrums with live music, drinks, hors d’oeuvres and contemporary art at one of New Jersey’s premier art galleries.

Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day with Douglas Tallamy, best-selling author of Bringing Nature Home. He will discuss the dire consequences of habitat destruction and how individuals can help reverse this alarming trend by providing a welcoming environment for wildlife.

Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum volunteers are decorating the Center Hallway at historic Skylands Manor for the annual Holiday Open House, sponsored by the Skylands Association of the New Jersey Botanical Garden. This year’s overall theme is Holiday Fantasy!

The Annual Meeting of Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum will be held on Sunday, November 10. In addition to a review of the past year and other business, the meeting will feature a showing of “Laurelwood Arboretum,” an excerpt from the film Hills and Valleys: A Journey Through Wayne, NJ.

The popular exhibit of oil paintings by César Jerez at the Knippenberg Center for Education at Laurelwood Arboretum has been extended to November 10. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.

Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum will offer free guided tours of Laurelwood Arboretum on Sunday, October 20. This last tour of the season offers opportunities to enjoy the fall foliage and some unusual fall-blooming flowers. Carts will be available for those who do not wish to walk.

Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum will host an exhibit of paintings by César Jerez from October 6 through October 31. The opening reception for the exhibit will be on Sunday, October 6. On Sunday, October 13, Jerez will demonstrate his technique of painting by creating a Laurelwood scene.

Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum will offer free guided tours of Laurelwood Arboretum on Sunday, September 22. It is an ideal opportunity to enjoy the first burst of fall color in the arboretum. Trained tour guides will lead visitors through the arboretum, identifying many of the unique trees and plantings.

Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of what is now known as Laurelwood Arboretum at the annual Festival of Friends on Saturday, September 14. A highlight of the event is a raffle that features some very special raffle prizes.

Laurelwood interns Kay Gardiner and Ryan Wizner together logged a total of 220 hours this year working with Betty Montagne and her plant collection management team. They located, identified and tagged trees and shrubs throughout the arboretum and updated the computerized database with accurate images, maps and descriptions.
