New Landscapes, the August exhibit at Laurelwood Arboretum, showcases photographs by Peter Tilgner captured during his travels to Amsterdam; Mexico City; Big Bend, Texas; the Hudson River Valley; Yellowstone National Park and the New York Botanical Garden. The works will be on display from August 1 through August 31 at the arboretum’s Knippenberg Center for Education, 725 Pines Lake Drive West in Wayne.
“As a photographer with camera in hand, I view my surroundings as picture possibilities,” said Tilgner. “While walking on nearby trails or distant pathways, light, subject matter and composition are constantly being played out in my mind. Creating new and unexpected pictures is what my work is about.”
Tilgner began his photography career during his 37 years as a middle school art educator. Since retiring, digital photography has become the centerpiece of his creative work. His images have been exhibited at the Montclair Art Museum, the New York Center for Photography, and other venues across the country.
The Opening Reception for the exhibit is on Sunday, August 3 at 2:30 pm. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend. For anyone who wishes to view the exhibit at another time, the Knippenberg Center is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 12 noon to 4 pm.
The Tilgner exhibit is one in a monthly series sponsored by Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum, the nonprofit organization that helps preserve and manage the 30-acre arboretum in partnership with Wayne Township.
