Tribute / Memorial Gifts
Tribute gifts are a unique way to celebrate and honor people who make a difference and occasions that matter — a family member, special friend, or business colleague; a wedding, anniversary, birthday, or retirement. We will send the person you name a note to let them know of your generosity.
Gifts made in memory of a loved one are a wonderful way to recognize a special person who was a significant part of your life.
Donate a Bench
Laurelwood Arboretum is a walker’s paradise, with its winding paths and beautiful scenery. It is also a wonderful place to sit and contemplate the vistas or just relax for a while. There are a few benches in the arboretum, but visitors have told us there aren’t enough. We have revitalized our bench program and are now offering an opportunity for donors to select either a beautiful hand-hewn bench by artist David Robinson or a contemporary teak bench.
There are many reasons to donate a bench—to celebrate a milestone in life or to honor or memorialize a loved one, to name just a few. Your bench will display a plaque inscribed with your tribute. There are only nine spots left in the current program for the donation of a bench for visitors to sit, relax and enjoy their surroundings.

In addition to the rustic style benches that we are offering in our Donate-A-Bench Program, there is also an opportunity for contemporary teak benches — at a reduced rate — that will be placed near the Knippenberg Center for Education.

Patio Pavers
Commemorate an occasion, memorialize a loved one or simply show your support by donating a paver inscribed with your message for the patio of the Knippenberg Center for Education. Click here to download a Paver Order form.

A number of naming opportunities are available for the Knippenberg Center for Education, the greenhouses, and other special places in the arboretum.

Charitable Bequests — a Gift for the Future
Remembering Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum in your will ensures that generations to come will continue to enjoy this unique natural preserve. Bequests can be made in the form of a specific gift of cash or a percentage of the remainder of an estate. Retirement assets or life insurance may be included in a bequest. If you specify it, a bequest of more than $25,000 can be treated as an endowment, and the funds will be invested to grow over time. We suggest that you consult your attorney, financial advisor, or estate planner to determine the most prudent way to make a charitable bequest.
To donate securities, please call 973-831-5675 for information about making a transfer to the Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum brokerage account.
Charitable IRA Distributions
Individuals who are 70½ and older can instruct their IRA administrator to make a distribution directly to Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum. Such gifts count toward the required minimum distribution for IRAs and the amount of the gift is excluded from gross income for federal tax purposes.
Matching Gifts
If your employer or your spouse’s employer has a matching gift program, your gift may be doubled or even tripled.
Gifts in Kind
Donations of needed goods or professional services help to defray our expenses and allow us to focus our spending on the arboretum and our programs and activities.
