Unique Images Captured by Greene Smith
Tiny Beasts, Vast Worlds, photographs by Greene Smith, will be on exhibit from May 2 through May 30 at the Knippenberg Center at Laurelwood Arboretum, 725 Pines Lake Drive West in Wayne. The series explores the brilliance of invertebrates by isolating detail, texture and symmetry through a macro lens. Each photograph serves as both a portrait and an invitation to see spiders, insects and other small beings not as pests, but as complex, essential participants in our shared ecosystem.
Greene is a macro photographer specializing in digital imagery of invertebrates. Through extreme close-up photography, Greene reveals the intricate textures, structures and unexpected beauty of creatures often overlooked or misunderstood. Beyond photography, Greene actively studies and keeps a diverse collection of invertebrates that includes tarantulas, true spiders, mantises and scorpions. This hands-on experience provides a unique perspective and intimacy that informs each image. Greene’s mission is to challenge perceptions and invite viewers to see these typically unloved creatures with wonder, not fear.
The Opening Reception for Tiny Beasts, Vast Worlds is on Sunday, May 3 at 2:30 pm to 4 pm. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend. For anyone who wishes to view the exhibit at another time, the Knippenberg Center is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 12 noon to 4 pm.
Tiny Beasts, Vast Worlds is part of a monthly series of art and photography exhibits sponsored by Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum, the nonprofit organization that helps preserve and manage the 30-acre arboretum in partnership with Wayne Township.
