Chrysanthemums—the beloved “mums” of fall—will take center stage at Laurelwood Arboretum on Wednesday, September 17 at 6:30 p.m. Cindy Hedin, a longtime member of the New Jersey State Chrysanthemum Society, will present a free program, Knowing and Growing Chrysanthemums, at the Knippenberg Center for Education, 725 Pines Lake Drive West, Wayne.
Drawing on more than 20 years of expertise, Hedin will explore the rich history of the chrysanthemum, highlight its many varieties, and share best practices for successful cultivation. Her illustrated presentation will cover the care and handling of both garden mums and exhibition types, with special attention to the dramatic “disbud” varieties prized by collectors. The program will conclude with a Q&A session, offering attendees the opportunity to learn directly from an expert how to bring out the best in these stunning blooms.
The New Jersey State Chrysanthemum Society will return to Laurelwood Arboretum for its annual judged show on Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12 from 12 pm to 4 pm. The show will be free and open to the public.
The New Jersey State Chrysanthemum Society has been growing and showing mums for 68 years. They seek to increase interest in the culture of chrysanthemums and foster an understanding of the horticultural nature of these stunning blooms.
