Did you know that the average American generates about 8 pounds of waste every day? Did you also know that 40 percent of what a household puts out to the curb for trash could actually be organically recycled to be turned into compost?
Come to Laurelwood Arboretum, 725 Pines Lake Drive West in Wayne on Wednesday, October 8 at 6 pm for a talk by Voula Papadopoulos, co-founder of Source Compost, to learn how you can compost at home. The program is free for everyone.
“There’s a common misconception that composting is only for gardeners or that it can’t be done in a densely populated area like Wayne. But if you or your household create organic waste (banana peels, coffee grinds, spoiled food, leaves, etc.) then you can compost,” says Papadopoulos. “From tumblers, to worms, to piles, to earth machines, to digesters there’s so many ways to get started.”
Papadopoulos has been coaching people how to compost for years. She is a Wayne native, graduated from Wayne Valley High School in 1999, and earned a Business and Master of Tourism degree from George Washington University. She is Vice Chair of Wayne’s Environmental Commission and is dedicated to making Wayne as green and environmentally friendly as possible. She is also a Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum volunteer.
