Charlie Briggs, custom woodcarver, will spend an afternoon at Laurelwood Arboretum on Saturday, August 24, starting at 1 pm (raindate Sunday, August 25). He will demonstrate techniques including carving in the round, relief carving, chip carving and wood burning. This free event is sponsored by Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum. Visitors to the park are invited to try to find Charlie in the arboretum to see his demonstration. Laurelwood Arboretum is located at 725 Pines Lake Drive West in Wayne.
Briggs is the owner of the Walnut Wood Carving Shop and a member of the Unorthodox Woodcarving Club. The club is a non-profit organization in northern New Jersey made up of people dedicated to promoting and preserving the traditional art of woodcarving in its many forms. Briggs hopes his demonstration will create interest in woodcarving as a hobby and in the Unorthodox Wood Carving Club. For additional information about the club, call 973- 934-6520.
