Mother’s Day Plant Sale at Laurelwood Arboretum

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum will host its annual Plant Sale on Saturday, May 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The arboretum is located at 725 Pines Lake Drive West (entrances at Vale Road and Pines Lake Drive) in Wayne.

PlantsThis year’s plant sale will feature a limited number of rhododendrons, azaleas and pieris ornamental evergreens obtained from R. F. DeMarco Nursery in Hammonton, NJ, where Laurelwood’s founders, John and Dorothy Knippenberg, purchased rhododendron and azalea plant plugs for their nursery. There will also be a selection of high-quality annuals and perennials, container gardens, and beautiful hanging plants, as well as special plants from the arboretum grown in the greenhouse from cuttings. As always, there will also be Mother’s Day gifts for children to purchase. Members will get a 10% discount on purchase of plants.

Volunteer tour guides will be on hand to lead tours of the arboretum from 10 am to noon. Laurelwood will be ablaze with colors, textures and aromas as native dogwoods, oak leaf and climbing hydrangeas, hostas, daylilies, lilacs, irises and other plants flower in May.

Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum is the nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and maintaining Laurelwood in partnership with Wayne Township. All proceeds from the plant sale will help to support the park’s maintenance, operations and public programs.

Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum welcomes new members and encourages current members to rejoin for 2019 at the plant sale’s membership table. Annual household membership is $25 or $125 for a 5-year membership. It makes a great Mother’s Day gift.
