Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum will celebrate Father’s Day by hosting “Rockin in Wayne,” a special program about the geology of Wayne and the surrounding area. Dr. Marty Becker, Professor of Earth and Environmental Science at William Paterson University, will be the featured speaker on Sunday, June 17 at 2:30 at the Knippenberg Center for Education at Laurelwood Arboretum, 725 Pines Lake Drive, Wayne. The program, which is open to the public, is free for members of Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum and $15 for nonmembers.
At 12:30 pm, Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum’s volunteer tour guides will take visitors through the arboretum, which should be in full bloom in June. The tours are free. Motorized carts are available for those who are unable or do not wish to walk.
Dr. Becker specializes in paleontology, geology and earth science at William Paterson. “Marty makes the subject of geology lively and informative,” said Bonnie Joachim, program chairperson of Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum. “We can look forward to discovering how rock formations determine what grows and flourishes at Laurelwood and how an area’s geology can pose difficulties for gardeners.”
