Wayne Mayor Proclaims November 28th Giving Tuesday

Wayne Mayor Christopher P. Vergano has proclaimed November 28, 2017 #GivingTuesday as a townshipwide  Day of Giving. #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners—charities, families, businesses, and individuals—to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Millions of people in more than 98 countries have participated in the movement in previous years.

#GivingTuesday is marked annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, following the popular shopping days Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Coming at the start of the holiday giving season, it is intended to inspire people to improve their local communities by donating to nonprofit organizations in their community.

The #GivingTuesday campaign provides a framework for people to choose their own way to contribute to their communities and will provide the citizens of Wayne with an opportunity to support local nonprofit organizations. Donations are made directly to participating organizations but reported to the #GivingTuesday program.

Organizations that are interested in participating in the #GivingTuesday initiative will find information and a toolkit at wwwgivingtuesday.org or https://www.facebook.com/GivingTuesday or can follow @GivingTues and the #GivingTuesday hashtag on social media

Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum, the nonprofit organization that helps preserve and manage the 30+ acre arboretum in partnership with Wayne Township, has already joined the Giving Tuesday movement. The organization is promoting the day with the hashtag #LovingLaurelwoodArboretum and a fundraising goal of $5,000 for the Laurelwood Arboretum Plant Restoration Fund and $8,000 for the Laurelwood Arboretum Irrigation Improvement Program.

“By joining this campaign, we hope to reach beyond our dedicated members and supporters to the community at large in our efforts to fund these two important projects,” said Alice Moskowitz, President of Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum. “Our beautiful park is open to everyone free of charge, and we hope to generate support from a wide circle of donors.”
