Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum (FOLA) invites adults and children of all ages to celebrate Earth Day on Sunday, April 24, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the arboretum, 725 Pines Lake Drive West in Wayne. The program is free and open to the public, rain or shine (directions here).

The festivities will begin at 1 p.m. with a welcome reception and light refreshments. At 2 p.m., Jim Wright, birding columnist for The Record, will talk about the unique features and history of High Mountain Preserve, Wayne’s highest point.

Starting at 3 p.m., FOLA volunteer guides will offer tours through the arboretum on foot or in the arboretum’s motorized vehicles. Also at 3 p.m., FOLA will host a special hands-on activity for children, “Recycle and Reuse,” in Laurelwood’s  Educational Greenhouse, which adjoins the Knippenberg Center for Education. Children will use recycled materials to start seeds for a summer garden.
