Rejuvenation by Elaine Lorenz, a brilliantly white sculpture fashioned from fiber-reinforced cement, is now on view alongside Brook Road at Laurelwood Arboretum. It replaces Up and Away, a Lorenz sculpture at the same site that was recently sold. Rejuvenation, which is also for sale, is priced at $15,000.
“I revisited my earlier sculpture to recreate one that was more uplifted in spirit and in reality,” said Lorenz. “Rejuvenation has both the sense of power rising and the calmness of curving lines connecting the whole.”
Lorenz is Professor Emeritus at William Paterson University in Wayne, where she taught sculpture and ceramic sculpture. A graduate of Marietta College in Ohio, she received a Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. Her work has been included in numerous exhibitions and sculpture sites throughout the United States and in private, public and corporate collections around the country.
A Sculpture Trail, a multiyear project that showcases unique works of art in the arboretum’s natural setting, is sponsored by Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum. Scott A. Broadfoot of the Broadfoot & Broadfoot gallery in Boonton, New Jersey is the curator. All sculptures in A Sculpture Trail are available for purchase, with a percentage of the proceeds donated to the Friends organization to be applied towards capital improvements.
