Art at the Arboretum, Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum’s (FOLA) first major fundraiser, was a resounding success. The money raised from the event will help FOLA continue to improve the arboretum’s gardens and infrastructure and enhance this horticultural treasure.
The weather was perfect all weekend. More than 100 guests attended the Saturday night Art Gala. The Knippenberg Center had been transformed into an art gallery with an intriguing array of paintings and sculpture. “Many people commented on the beauty of the building and were enthusiastic about the work we are doing,” said Alice Moskowitz, FOLA president. “For some, Laurelwood was a discovery and they were impressed. Others just enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbors. And some even purchased art.”
Honorary Chairperson, Mayor Vergano, spoke enthusiastically about Laurelwood and FOLA. Guest speaker Frank Juliano, Executive Director of Reeves-Reed Arboretum, gave an informative talk about How to Identify Collectible Art.
About 40 members, volunteers and friends attended the Sunday morning brunch, and a crowd of visitors came in the afternoon to view and purchase the art. FOLA volunteers offered tours of the arboretum to those who were interested.
